But I find it even more fun to visit those small shops, where the selection is just that little bit more special or beautiful and the service is more pleasant and personal. I would like to list these shops for you.
1. Little Wannahaves
Little Wannahaves is een leuk klein winkeltje in de Zakkendragerssteeg. Je vindt hier speelgoed, accessoires en kinderkleding. Alle merken zijn verantwoord en duurzaam geproduceerd. De eigenaar is heel klantvriendelijk en servicegericht. Little Wannahaves heeft zowel een fysieke winkel als een webshop, dus ook online kan je hier goed shoppen.

2. De Knappe Gans
Another great store is De Knappe Gans. This store sells toys, children’s clothing, books, lifestyle items for the nursery and other fun gadgets. The store is aimed at ages 0-10. While you shop, the children can play with the toy train or ride around the store on the balance bike. If you are unable to visit the store, don’t worry: at Peddler you can also order their products online and have them delivered.

3. Pinokkio
At Pinokkio you will find high-quality and sustainable toys. The range is slightly different and more special than that of the big toy stores. 4. Kinderwinkel Westerkade
There are already enough disposable items, says the owner of Kinderwinkel Westerkade. You will also find sustainable and fair toys at this nice shop. You can also go here for games, books, children’s clothing, nursery accessories, craft packages and much more. For example, toys can now be found with the label ‘as good as new’. Because quality toys can often be used for many more rounds. If you want to shop consciously in a shop where you can find nice things in every corner, then you have come to the right place!

5. De Utrechtse kinderboekwinkel
If you normally buy a lot online, I would leave that for this store. Because this beautiful children’s bookstore, which has been a household name in Utrecht for years, is such a place to browse around. All the more reason to visit this store on the Ganzenmarkt.

More and more people like to buy second-hand. And fortunately, the dusty image of this is a thing of the past, so the range is growing and improving visibly. Deugniet is such a shop that sells beautiful second-hand clothing. In addition to clothing, you will also find items such as bags, school cups, gift items, etc. So if you are a conscious shopper, be sure to browse around this cozy shop on the Amsterdamsestraatweg. 7. Hout-doe
If you are looking for wooden toys, Hout-doe is the right place for you. This store in Leidsche Rijn center has everything in the field of beautiful and sustainable wooden toys. 8. Fleurtje Belle Fleur
We were recently tipped off about Fleurtje Belle Fleur. It’s no wonder we didn’t know it yet, because this shop has only been open as a (temporary) brick-and-mortar store in Utrecht since October. Initially, this was only supposed to be for a month, but the reactions have been so enthusiastic that the pop-up store will remain open in November and December at least. In this store, you will find beautiful clothing brands and a range of toys and gifts. Check their Instagram or webshop for information about their physical store if you want to visit them after December.

9. Green UP
* Closed * Green Up is a green department store and restaurant in one. Even though Green UP is not a children’s store, I would like to mention it. There are also many fun things for children to find here. Upstairs you can shop for new toys and items for the little ones. And downstairs you will find a section with vintage toys from Kinderachtig. This mix of new and vintage in a beautiful store in a great location makes it absolutely worth visiting this beautiful department store.

10. Paper Moon Books
Paper Moon Books on Oudegracht should of course also be on our list. This nice children’s bookstore was created from a need of the English owner. She missed a good supply of English-language children’s books in Utrecht and therefore started working on it herself. With so many international residents in our city, this was a bull’s eye. You can go here for both new and second-hand books.

Of course, there is much more to find for the little fellow human being in Utrecht, such as I Love Speelgoed. Although this is not a physical store, I would still like to mention this webshop. Here you will find a wide range of high-quality toys, craft materials and gift items. Orders can not only be shipped but also picked up.
If you like to shop second-hand for your children, you have been able to go to Kortjakje on the Twijnstraat for children’s clothing for more than 30 years. If you like new clothes from beautiful brands, take a look at Labels for Little Ones in Leidsche Rijn for beautiful clothes, toys and decoration items.
